Impact report Drop Coffee 2024
Transparency is essential to us as a coffee roastery and café.
For as long as I have run the business, we have published our buying prices annually. And a few years later, in 2015, we eliminated a significant amount of coffee we had previously purchased to focus on working with producers and farms that I personally knew well and trusted. We wrote up impact reports and checklists with a sustainability layer in import and export.
Since 2021, we have been working with a third party to look at our impact and what we have and can improve as a coffee business. You can find all the reports at dropcoffee.com. Now the fourth edition is ready and you can read it here: The latest Drop Coffee Impact Report .
As a small-scale independent business, transparency work is hard as you wish to do more and bolder in many ways, but it also makes me proud to log the process year on year and keep considering environmental, economic and social sustainability in the things we do. Coffee is a long-time underpaid production where most of the risk is at the producer, and the least we can do is to be transparent about where we are. I would also like to add that in a world that is entering AI more and more for everyday, it somewhat feels more important to share in an as raw and realistic way as we can (even if there always be a natural subjectivity as we have asked for the report) and to run the communication to our guests, customers, partners and coffee interested, about our business in the same transparent, no AI-generated texts anywhere, as before, and backed up with data.
The focus for me, in particular, during a phase of getting children as a managing director of a small and personal business, is less on growth but on economic sustainability and that we are proud of the actual things we do put into the world. I hope Drop to nourish and bloom even more in the upcoming years to make more impact and to continue to share the risk more in the supply chain. However, it will always be more important to stay true to values and focus on an even more crisp, tasty and good (all terms included) than to grow. We promise to continue to be transparent with our challenges and paths forward. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out to us at info@dropcoffee.se
A special thank you to the sustainability consultant, Hanna Huhtonen for making the report.
